Chairman's Message

In Pursuit of the Best Educational Opportunities

Watanabe Gakuen, with 7,800 students in its affiliated nursery school, junior high school, high school, junior college, university, and graduate school, has officially received an A3 grade (based on fourteen grades ranging from A1 to D3), one of the highest grades available for financial management of schools, from the Promotion and Mutual Aid Corporation for Private Schools of Japan. Tokyo Kasei University, the core institution of the Watanabe Gakuen Educational Institutions, has 6,800 students currently enrolled and 110,000 graduates worldwide who are living open minded and thoughtful lives.

Tokyo Kasei University, one of the leading universities for women in Japan, was founded by Tatsugoro Watanabe in 1881 with love, diligence, and wisdom as its creed and a founding spirit of helping women become independent. With these ideas in mind, TKU has continued to grow and now has two campuses an hour away from each other: a large campus in Jujo, Tokyo, and another in Saitama prefecture.

In the last twenty years more than twenty four-year women’s universities have closed in Japan. Among the twenty remaining women’s universities in the metropolitan Tokyo area, competition to survive is increasing. For the Watanabe Gakuen Educational Institutions to thrive in this environment, impressive reforms are being carried out across the board—from improving educational standards to making school operations more efficient. With this in mind, everyone connected with Watanabe Gakuen is working together to ensure it remains one of the best private schools in Japan.
